Please note: Although this website will function using Netscape Navigator 4.8 or later, there will be some cosmetic differences when viewed with this browser when compared to a modern, standards compliant browser.
We offer only limited support for Netscape Navigator 4, due to it's incomplete support of CSS (Cascading Style Sheets), lack of accessibility features and other standards.
If you are using Netscape Navigator 4, we strongly recommend that you either upgrade to Netscape 8, or use another browser.
Recommended web browsers
For the best experience and security whilst using this web site we strongly recommend either of the following web browsers:
Microsoft Internet Explorer 7
Mozilla FireFox 2
Opera 9

This web site has been designed in accordance with the Department's policy and guidelines on website accessibility and usability.
Navigation
The main menu system uses DHTML and JavaScript to generate the 'pop-up' menu. For the majority of users this provides the easiest method to navigate the site quickly, and familiarise yourself with the structure of information.
Some users may have difficulty using this menu system, such as users with disabilities who may be using access technologies, or a text-based web browser. Also, if your browser does not support JavaScript or it has been disabled, the menu will not work.
In either of these situations we recommend that you use the Site Map page to navigate the web site, this provides a simple text based menu of the entire site contents.
Suggestions
If you are using accessibility technologies, such as a screen reader or text-only web browser, using some or all of the following techniques may improve your experience while using this website.
disable CSS styles sheets, or apply your own style sheet
disable JavaScript
disable page colours
linearise the page
For accessibility features and compatibility, we strongly recommend that you use either the FireFox or Opera web browsers. These browsers offer excellent built-in tools for accessibility and provide the best compatibility for CSS and accessibility features.
If you have any problems using this web site, or would like to provide feedback, please contact the webmaster.
Navigating this website
Apart from clicking hyperlinks within the particular page that you are viewing, the primary method for moving from page to page is by using the main navigation menu at the top-left of every page. As you hover your mouse over each section in the menu, a sub-menu showing the contents of that section will 'pop-up' (provided you have JavaScript turned on in your browser (see below). Move your mouse over to the sub-menu and click on an item to view that page.
Sub-sections
Some pages contain sub-sections. These are pages that contain additional pages on a particular topic, but are not shown on the main menu.
You access these pages by using the 'In this section' menu, which appears on the top-right of the page. An example of such a page is the About courses page.
Any page that contains sub-sections will have the comment in red at the top of the page, directing you to the 'In this section' menu.
Click on any of the links from the 'In this section' menu to the view that page.
Breadcrumbs
Bread crumbs are an additional method you can use to 'back-track' through the site, they also give you a visual indication of where you currently are within the site.
The breadcrumbs are always at the top of the page, just below page title.
You can click any of the links in the bread crumb to jump to the main page of that section.
Site Map
You can also use the Site Map page to view the contents of the site and navigate to any page.
Printing
When you print a page, the left-hand menu will not appear on the printed output. This allows the main content of the page to fit on to a standard A4 sheet.
Please note that any browser that does not support this feature of CSS (such as Netscape 4) will print the left-hand menu, and as a result the page may not fit on to an A4 sheet, depending on how your browsers printing preferences are set.
If you experience "clipping", whereby some of the document is missing from the side of the page, please check your 'Page Setup' or 'Printing Preferences' and reduce your page margins to 5-10mm (this only needs to be done once - not every time you print).
JavaScript
This web site uses JavaScript to create an enhanced user experience.
The main navigation menu of this web site (at the top-left of the page) uses JavaScript to generate the 'pop-up' menus.
Some old web browsers, and text based web browsers do not support JavaScript, and the menu system will not function correctly. If you are using one of these browsers you will see a warning message below this paragraph. If JavaScript is working, you will see a message that says "JavaScript is enabled" directly below this paragraph.
We strongly recommend that you use a modern browser, such as Internet Explorer 7 or Mozilla FireFox. If you must use an incompatible browser, we recommend you navigate the site using the Site Map page, which provides a simple text based menu of the site contents.
If your browser does support JavaScript, but it has been disabled, you will also see a warning message above this paragraph. For the best experience while using this site we strongly recommend that you enable JavaScript. This web site does not use cookies, or automatic pop-up windows that can annoy the user - these are the most common reasons that users might choose to disable JavaScript.
Please check your browsers settings / preferences, and enable JavaScript (sometimes called 'Active Scripting'). Consult the built-in help of your web browser for further information.
If you have any problems using this web site, or would like to provide feedback, please contact the webmaster.

Some pages in this website use Adobe Flash technology to display rich-media content. To view this content you must have the Adobe Flash Player plug-in installed on your computer.
Flash content on the site requires at least version 6 of the Flash plugin, however version 7 is recommended.
You can go to the Adobe Flash About page to find out if you have the plug-in installed, and if so, what version you have.
If you have the Flash plug-in already installed but do not see the Flash content, or experience problems, it is likely that you have an old version installed. You will need to update your Flash plug-in.
